December 2010. This month, I am excited to report, I have signed an agreement with Alexander Terry Associates for exclusive representation of The Bath Collection, my line of extra long, designer shower curtains.
Alexander Terry has a showroom here in the Atlanta Merchandise Mart in Building 1 on the 10th floor and they represent a number of bath, drapery and linen manufacturers.
They have been searching for a line of extra long shower curtains and discovered my line while I was exhibiting in High Point this past October.
We are all excited about this new liaison and look forward to expanding the line with Alexander Terry’s representation.

BEVERLY HALL RESPONSE: MY CORRECTION & APOLOGY October 23, 2010

On 10/22/2010, I received an e-mail from: noneofyourbusiness@hotmail.com stating:
Check your facts before posting on your blog! Beverly Hall did not simply close its doors, but was forced to liquidate by the bank following the death of Mr. Hux. The family feels ashamed and is disgusted by the actions of the bank and is attempting to fill all customer orders on the Beverly Hall backlog.
My post followed news reports on local tv stations – which one would think one could trust with “truthful reporting.” It would appear from the response posted anonymously that the local television stations were seeking only sensationalism. Their stories led us to believe that the company would be leaving its customers who had placed furniture orders and paid deposits without recourse. According to whomever posted the response to my blog, the family is doing the right thing. For that I am grateful and offer my sincere apologies. The responder is correct – I should have researched more and not have relied on the news for my information – a lesson to us all!
HIGH POINT BECKONS! October 14, 2010

I’m off this afternoon. I am leaving today because I’m an Exhibitor and I have to set up my booth tomorrow. Most exhibitors have already been in High Point for a while, getting their showrooms ready, fussing and dressing. THE BATH COLLECTION, my line of extra long ready made shower curtains, only takes about 2 hours for set-up and display. I’ll be at the loading dock by 8 a.m. tomorrow morning and should have the booth complete by lunch.
The International Home Furnishings Market officially opens at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning. However, many of the showrooms will be open on Friday and several are having welcome parties on Friday evening. The market is spread throughout the city of High Point. My booth will be in one of my favorite buildings, Suites At Market Square, which is attached to the Historic Market Square building, an old factory with wonderful architecture. This time, we’ll be on the Mezzanine level, Booth 4027.
While I’m excited about going and being an Exhibitor again, I know that Market is a lot of hard work. As a designer, it’s truly, truly difficult for me to be “stuck” in my own booth when I want so badly to go to all the showrooms and buildings and see what’s new, touch and feel. It’s important to know and see so that when I’m recommending furnishings to my clients, I have first-hand knowledge.
I’ve been attending High Point since the year 2000 off and on as a Designer and I’ve always travelled with fellow designers who are my dear friends. Because we live in Atlanta, High Point is about a 5+ hour drive, so we have traditionally carpooled and roomed together, going our separate ways during the day and meeting up to have lunch and dinner after a long, grueling day.
This year, I’ll have the company of my friend and fellow designer, Regina Schuber from Dublin, GA and I have someone from High Point who will be coming to help with my booth each day. I’m anticipating heavy traffic and lots of sales!
THE BATH COLLECTION is always well received and there are always positive comments about how much the product is needed! I’m filling a forgotten niche in the home fashion market. I have 5 new introductions this market and I’m looking forward to hearing the reactions!
Wish me luck and if you come, please say hello!

Next Friday, October 15, 2010, is another great opportunity to help support cancer research.
Through my friend and fellow designer, Lynn M. Morley, I have donated a signed copy of the book, Spectacular Homes of Georgia. in which my work was featured, together with a one hour consultation, to be added to the auction items. (Hope somebody buys it!)
The Seena Magowitz Foundation is among the hosts for the FIRST GOLF ATLANTA CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT to benefit globalCure, a new initiative aimed at finding better treatments for pancreatic cancer.
The event will take place at the Crabapple Golf Club, located at 4115 Earney Rd. Woodstock, GA 30188-2239 and begins at 9:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast. Golf and an awards luncheon follow. The luncheon will feature the live auction.

I cannot be present, as I will be in High Point, setting up my booth for my company: Legacy Linen Group. However, I am sure the event will be a great success.

Tomorrow, Thursday, October 7, from 11:30 to 1 o’clock, I will be in Roswell at THE WORKS for a To The Trade presentation of the new showroom. If you’re a decorator or designer in the greater Atlanta area, you should be at this event.
As I’ve mentioned, I am one of the members of THE WORKS through my company, Legacy Linen Group. THE BATH COLLECTION, my line of ready-made, extra long shower curtains, is on display and available for purchase in the store.
However, I will also be working tomorrow on behalf of Breast Cancer Awareness and will be having a jewelry trunk show & sale for those in attendance and have pledged that 20% of the profit on the sale of every item will go towards this cause.
Legacy: THE JEWELRY COLLECTION, is my newest venture. It’s just a small sideline, but one I enjoy and it gives me an opportunity to give back. The Collection consists of lovely pieces that are “designer replicas” .
If you’re planning to attend, please RSVP to betteraburn@gmail.com.
ANOTHER FURNITURE STORE GONE IN ATLANTA! October 6, 2010

I read on Tuesday, Oct. 5, in the trade magazine, Furniture Today, that the owner of Beverly Hall Furniture Store in Roswell, Jerry Mason Hux, had died. He was only 64. This morning, on our local Fox 5 news, I listened to a story that stated that the store had simply closed its doors and customers who had placed orders with substantial deposits would, in all probability, lose their money and never see the furniture they had ordered.
I am so disheartened by this news. I was saddened this summer when I heard that Georgetown Interiors would also close.
What’s left here in Atlanta? Well, in the way of retail furniture stores that sell high quality furnishings and design services, very little remains. However, the consumer should not forget the interior designer.
Full-service interior design firms are still very much in existence. Because we are not affiliated with any one “retail” location and are not limited by the inventory on our retail floors, our options for our clients are unlimited.
While I am very disturbed that customers have been treated so poorly in certain situations where companies have closed their doors, I cannot let the situation go without comment to the general public that utilizing the services of a reputable interior design firm with access to everything one requires to furnish one’s home and/or office, should not be overlooked.
We are here. We will be here for years to come. Our accounts remain in good standing. Our work has received national recognition. We would love to discuss your project with you. Give Legacy Design Group a call.
Whether you’re just thinking of decorating one room or an entire home. If you’re adding on, renovating, up-dating kitchen and/or bath, relocating your office, re-decorating the rooms in your boutique hotel – Legacy Design Group has the experience and expertise to get your project done.

Last Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, I attended the Design Institute at ADAC hosted by House Beautiful magazine. Newell Turner, the newly appointed Editor In Chief was on hand to talk about what’s hot in interior design and the trends they’re seeing.
First, I was impressed with the new aesthetic the magazine has achieved under Mr. Turner’s guidance. This is real design – quality work by designers that are not necessarily the “annointed” ones but who, nevertheless, are supremely talented and worthy of publication.
House Beautiful is a venerable home decorating publication – perhaps one of the oldest still in existence – celebrating 114 years. Newell Turner has brought a fresh vision and voice to the magazine.
Check my BLOG soon for the new trends and colors for 2011 – yes(!) it’s almost here!
